MO-CO and Opera Mini

Have you heard the expression mo-co before? I hadn't either until recently, so now you can impress your geek friends.... Short for mobile content, the 'word' on the streets is getting the internet on your mobile is gonna be huge.

In Australia, we're very quick to take up new technologies, hence most new mobiles have come ready with internet access, be it via 3G or WAP, for some time. Playing around with the technology over the last few years I'd generally dismissed it. It was too hard to connect, web pages never seemed to present properly and the screen was just too darn small. A lot of this came back to the browser on the phone, I don't know if you've ever tried it on a Nokia (N70 - pictured below) but it just seemed to miss out on most of the details of a page, the text was everywhere and I couldn't navigate at all.

Now I know web pages need to be built properly (standards based, accessibility friendly etc) to display properly on the mobile but it still didn't help... until today. Being a fan of the open source 'movement' I like to keep an eye on new bits of software and Opera (great standard browser) have released Opera Mini for your mobile.

In a couple of easy steps I was able to :

  1. Download the software (via sms or to your computer),
  2. Auto-install it on the phone
  3. Connect to the internet
  4. View www.efront.com.au without any problems.

Along with normal browsing options, Opera Mini also provides :

So, for the first time I think I'm starting to see the practical uses of mo-co. Take some time, download Opera Mini and check it out....

10-4 Big Buddy,

Mark

The Red Letter Group

I'd like to take a minute to welcome Rohan and Kate of The Red Letter Group. The Red Letter Group is about using words creatively and effectively. These guys do copywriting, editing and have a handle on ANY copy or content, from the web to brochures to well....you name it.

At this stage we've got a placeholder up with a little content and both David and I are looking forward to working with Kate and Rohan on the site in the near future.

Charlotte's Web - Film Victoria

I love Melbourne. That's part of the reason I'm excited to announce our newest project. We've spent the last four weeks working with Kirsten, Emily, Tim and a host of others from Film Victoria to build a website for the promotion of Charlotte's Web and its' shooting in Melbourne.

www.filmedinmelbourne.com.au

It was a pleasure to work with professionals in a fun, energetic and exciting area. The site is about promoting Victoria as a world class, premium filming destination. Showcasing many of the locations Charlotte's Web was shot it, it's a different way to look at the city and the state that I know and love. The site also includes some great shots of cast and crew and the official film trailer from Paramount.

Congratulations and thanks to all involved....and have an ace weekend.

Cheers
Mark

ClubsConsulting

ClubsConsulting, an initiative of ClubsNSW, provides a dynamic and comprehensive range of professional consultancy services focused on the needs of the Australian club industry.

We've just launched two more surveys for ClubsConsulting. These surveys are focussed both club managers/ directors and members and patrons of clubs in NSW and ACT.

It's been great dealing with Frank and Amanda - both are true professionals. Even though we've been working with them for more than 3 years, we've never actually met face to face. We're looking forward to catching up with them finally in December on their next visit to Melbourne and celebrating the end of a busy year.

Has your mobile got wind?

While we're on the kiting theme.... the winds are changing... literally. The famous Melbourne southerlys herald the start of the kiteboarding season.

We've just set up mobile wind access for St Kilda Kiteboarding users. This means kiteboarders, sailboarders and anyone who needs access to latest wind information, can now point their mobile web browser to the weather beacon for their location and get the lastest wind data.

Good winds,

David

Leading Edge Media

We're pleased to announced the launch of Leading Edge Media's website.

It's a website that follows the "small steps" principle, giving Leading Edge the ability to have some basic information for prospective clients on the web and something to back up their email domain name. Leading edge have some additional modules they will be adding to their site over the coming months, and we look forward to helping them expand their web presence.

Ideal Life

A warm welcome to our newest client - Ideal Life.

Bayden from Ideal Life contacted us with some questions about the best way to get their new business started on the web. There are so many things that need to get done when starting up a business and a website, while important, isn't necessarily the first.

Our recommendation - start small, think big.

This means using a placeholder webpage to give the basic outline of the business using the same look and feel of their business branding. This allows Ideal Life to secure their domain name and use their own ideallife.com.au email address on their business cards and promotional material immediately.

As the startup work settles down, Ideal Life can take the time to identify exactly what they need on the web and replace the placeholder page with a fully functioning site. The benefit is that it gives Ideal Life an initial web presence that is visible for potential clients rather than just another "under construction" web page and at the same time something to build on.

All the best,

David
