David and I spent some time on Monday with Simone from Finance Planet. Finance Planet are ready for a site update, incorporating a new design, some great new functionality and a good look to some search engine optimisation.
We had a great meeting working through options for Finance Planet and are looking forward to getting underway on this one...
Keep on keepin on.

The class of 1957 from Elwood High School (Victoria), had a 50 year renunion on Sunday 18th of March, 2007 at the Elwood Sailing Club.
We helped out with a basic website where they could post photos from the event to share with their family and friends.
Congratulations to all!

The Miggy Tree is a delightful book with a moving back story. I'll quote here from the site....
"The Miggy Tree was written as a gift by Karl Yeomans for his mum, Margot, more affectionately known as Miggy, to celebrate her 50th birthday.
In 2006, when Karl was only 33, his life was tragically cut short by a malignant brain tumour. Shortly after his death his wife, Julie Buxton, decided to bring this wonderful poem to life as a beautifully illustrated book and a precious gift for their two year old son Marlow and his grandma, Miggy."
...we've been working with Julie (Klaussen Publishing) getting the site ready for launch along with the book. The gorgeous artwork from illustrator Anna Walker sets the mood for a quirky and beautifully presented book that has been designed by Hamish Freeman (Pfisterer+Freeman).
Take a look and see for yourself... www.miggytree.com.au

David and I are pretty excited to be working on a new website for the Richard Maher Agency. If you were wondering, Richard Maher is a producer and manager for some massive names :
- Derrick May
- Ron Trent
- Stacey Pullen
- Greg Wilson
- Cosmik Twins
- Omar-S
- Hi-Tek Soul
- DJ Bone and many, many more.
We're working with Pete Barrett from Protein Design on this one and we're pretty chuffed with the initial concepts. The site will include information on the artists and the agency, a blog style news section, online booking forms, subscription modules and more.
Watch this space ;)

If you are thinking about getting a website built or revamping an old one do your research.
There was an interesting article in The Age this morning regarding "Findability" - how you rank in search engines. The article was quite basic and although raising some valid points it would have been good to mention what I regard as the most important part of search engine optimisation - "the expert factor".
Search engines aren't stupid, if they were, spammers would dominate them. Search engines don't just read through your website, they assess how much of an expert you are in your field. What determines your level of "expertise" is the quality of your content, the quantity of your content and most importantly the quality of other sites who link to you on the subject. If for example you had a gardening website, and The Age newspaper linked to your site from an article regarding gardening, it would really boost your ranking in Google.
For example, don't expect to have a 5 page website with no inbound links (links from other sites) - rank very well, regardless of whether you are using Flash or straight HTML. That's before we get in the importance of keyword rich page titles and urls.
Using a blog/news system (like the one you are reading), you can easily add content to your site that helps your ranking, while giving your potential customers useful information - no coding, no software. Since starting our blog, we've added around 2-3 articles a week, that's now 75 pages of content.
Be realistic about your ranking goals - everyone wants to be number 1. Take us for example, rather than focus on being listed number one in "web design australia" - we concentrate on "online store development".
It takes patience and a bit of strategy - but you too can get on the first page of a Google search result.
Use our Google ranking checker, to see how your site ranks in the first 100 results returned for particular keywords.
Have a great weekend,
David

We had a catch up with the design team down at Cornwell on Monday.
The main focus of our presentation was to give the team an overview of current web trends and elements they can use to help acheive their clients' goals.
We spent around 45 mins, going over Web 2.0, AJAX, CSS, Googlemaps implementations, Mashups, SEO, RSS and business focussed blogging.
It's always easy talking about things you love, and a great group, with plenty of questions made it a great way to start the week!

We're pleased to announce that one of our recently completed websites has been recognised by the Australian Web Designers Network with a platinum award.
Parish of Sts Peter and Paul website - www.sppchurch.org.au
The Parish of Sts Peter and Paul website features Google blogger integration which allows the parish to add and automatically archive news items with ease. This means the site is kept up to date directly by the parish and their trusty volunteers. The site also features a moveable Google Map on the front page which displays location details and mass times.
All the best,
David
